Hello, I’m Susan Barrett and I’m the owner and founder of RabbIT Training. Welcome to my website!
I set up RabbIT Training in 2001 after a long and eventful career as a Technical Trainer in the networking industry and working for various training companies. I started this company with the firm belief in the importance of common sense and clear communication when it comes to training.
I’ve been involved in training and coaching in one way or another for most of my career. I started life as a Director’s Secretary or PA at companies like The Burton Group and GEC Marconi. I quickly learned that not only do I have enviable organisational skills, but also an aptitude for translating “tech talk” into plain English so anyone can understand it.
Those roles taught me the importance of making sure you have the right skills to not just do your job, but to improve your productivity and – consequently – your value to the team. Plus it makes your cv look good too!
I’m living proof of this because during my tenure at GEC Marconi I was tasked with assisting staff to make a smooth transition to a new internal computer network. I booked in all the necessary training and followed up with anyone who needed extra support, as well as taking on other supervisory roles and delivering additional user-level courses myself. I relished the opportunity and the responsibility – and my love of training and being a trainer began!
In 1995, I decided that I wanted to do it full-time, so I joined Harley West Training. This was my first role as a Microsoft Office trainer, and I soon also took on technical training on Microsoft NT4 too. This was also my first taste of creating specialised training courses for individual clients, and I eventually rose to the level of Applications Consultant. It was also here that I first became a Microsoft Certified Trainer and gained other Certified Professional qualifications.
In 1999, I joined Network Alchemy Ltd (which became Avaya ECS Ltd). Here I delivered training and course development on the Alchemy telephony and data convergence series. This is where I gained all my knowledge and experience of telephony systems, including Avaya (IP Office) and Splicecom – my existing IT know-how giving me great synergy in the telecoms world.
I launched RabbIT Training so that I could freelance as a trainer and continue to widen my skills base – because you’re never too old to learn! I’ve been working with Microsoft Office and Splicecom for several decades now, and I believe that everyone, no matter what level they are, can benefit from being trained by an expert, whether you’re a beginner or you just need a refresh. I’ve made it my mission to deliver my training wherever it is needed.
In September 2018, I was delighted to be nominated as a finalist in the Best Business Women Awards 2018 for the Best Business Service and Best Business Women in STEM. Again in September 2019 I was nominated as a finalist in the Best Business Women Awards 2019 for Best Business Women in STEM.
I also believe that knowledge is power and it gives me a real thrill when I see my “students” growing, developing and becoming more productive and valued team members as a result of my training.
